Spanish 7-8 and AP present music videos!

Sr. McVeigh's Spanish 7-8 and AP students presented music videos this week. After finding a song in Spanish that they liked, students found the lyrics and then visually interpreted the song using their own artwork. What a fun, artistic way to have a listening practice! Spanish 5-6 students have just completed the first semester benchmark where they took on the roles of police officers and witnesses to a crime. They let their creativity run free and dreamed up the zaniest of crimes (one group stole Shamu) and the motliest crew of suspects (including Chuck E. Cheese and Sr. McVeigh!) Great job, guys!

French student speaks about her mission trip to Haiti!

Students of Madame Leidhoff's Advanced French read a piece of literature of Dany Laferriere, 'Tout Bouge autours de moi' about the experience of the 2009 earthquake in Haiti, a French-speaking country. One of our students was a missionary to help an orphanage in Haiti after the quake. We asked her questions in French about the experience and conditions. We are very proud of Karli.. all in French!

Students speak about special people in their lives

Students in Dr. Jacobson's 1-2 classes presented the narratives they wrote and memorized about a special person in their life. It was wonderful to hear their fluent speech and observe students terrific efforts.

Finals coming Jan 25th! Students are hard at work!

Señor Lawhead's Spanish 5-6 classes have hit the ground running.  This week they prepared for their upcoming oral test using TPR/S techinques and a new story, reviewed the use of the "perfect" tenses and learned to use the future tense.  With less than three weeks left to the semester, there's a lot of work to finish!

Mme Frederickson shares her experiences in francophone Africa

French 5-6 students learned vocabulary to talk about francophone Africa, listened to Mme Frederickson present her teaching experience there, viewed photographs, then said what questions they would ask a Congolese student their age. They also talked about the benefits of learning a language.

¡Vacation is over! Spanish students are back to work!

Sr. McVeigh's Spanish 5-6 students have begun working on the Semester 1 Benchmark. They are working in partners, acting as police officers and eye-witnesses to describe the scene of the crime. "What crime?" you may ask... Well, that's up to the students creativity! The Spanish 7-8 and AP Spanish students have finished their units on immigration and will be working with music from around the Spanish-speaking world. After finding a song they enjoy, they will create a music video with original artwork to narrate the song.

¡Interesante Argentina!

Señora Trott's students presented projects on Argentina this week. Students taught their peers about the wonders of Argentine cuisine, soccer, outdoor activities, climate and geography. In addition, several groups had the class up and dancing as we learned several steps from the complex dance "Tango". Other groups brought in samples of alfajores (cookies) and empanadas (pastry turnovers) to share with the class. Several students chose to redesign the National Soccer jersey and the resulting art was impressive. It was a fun, interactive week.

French students are fun, creative and hard-working

Madame Leidhoff's students of first year French are practicing possessive adjectives and relationships to family..we are using Le Roi Lion as our context and indulged in a clip in French today.

French 3-4 are presenting their culinary delights (uisine francaises) that they had prepared for their families over the break to their class. They are using a twelve sentence format in the past tense. Some students chose to present French music instead.
Advanced French practiced vocabulary in reading and representing theatrically a story from Le Petit Nicolas series.

Disney's 'Soarin' stimulates grammar lesson

Dr. Jacobson engaged students in a guided writing activity through a model, describing a helicopter pilot. Students then compared and contrasted their selected 'benchmark' person with a partner.  After conjugating verbs related to the theme of 'flight', students then had great fun identifying words they learned while watching a video clip of Disney's California Adventure ride 'Soarin'.  Using 'Make A Room' technology, students studied prepositions by describing the location of furniture and stuctures in a 'transformable' living room.
