Spanish 5-6 students explore future careers

Señor Lawhead's Spanish 5-6 students are making decisions about what career they want to pursue during the Entrevista de Empleo project.  They spent Thusday taking a survey of their interests and personalities at careercrusing.com in the library.  This website provides them with specifc vocational suggestions for their futures and provides very current information about job availability, salary and working conditions.

The World Langauges Department thanks all our students and parents who contribute to our collection of empty ink-jet cartridges!  Office Depot remunerates us with a gift card worth cash for these cartridges.  We have used our gift cards to purchase materials and hardware for the World Languages Department.  All brands are accepted.

Family Tree Project in Spanish 1-2

Profe Bañuelos' Spanish 1-2 class, while learning vocabulary about family relatives and days and months, created family trees in Spanish that gave students the chance to explore their family history by asking their parents about their ancestors.  Students wrote the name of the relative, their relation (ex: padre), and birthday (ex: quince de junio).

Spanish 1-2 students present Salta Ranita Salta to pre-schoolers

Dr. Jacobson's Spanish 1-2 students presented the story 'Salta Ranita Salta' to preschool students.  Students then engaged the younger learners in learning vocabulary from the story through illustrations, repetition and question/response activities.

Spanish 3-4 students prepare country projects!

Señor Lawhead's Spanish 3-4 students have chosen a Spanish-speaking country and are constructing their tourist booklets and preparing their sales pitches to present in front of class.

Fr 1-2 and 5-6 students with family and skits

Madame Frederickson's French 1-2 students finished presenting their families via PowerPoint. Their family trees included Daffy Duck, Lady GaGa, many relatives of note.
French 5-6 students have begun their skit about how to convince the receptionist that you are deserving of the last room in the hotel.


Spanish 7-8 student question social justice issues

Mr. McVeigh's 7-8, students have just begun a Human Rights unit that has them questioning a variety of social justice issues.

Second-year French students present plays

Madame Leidhoff's students of second year French are rehearsing for play presentations on Monday.  Memorizing lines takes a lot of practice and helps to practice listening, pronunciation and speaking in complete sentences.  The plays will be creatively presented and very funny. Bravo to our hard workers, critical thinkers and creative French  students!

The daily routine and reflexive verbs. Sp 3-4 benchmark.

Señora Trott's Spanish 3-4 classes are learning how to describe their daily routine using reflexive verbs. Students will be participating in a district benchmark project where they describe their "Typical Day" from the first moment when they wake up until the last thing they do at night. Students will create photo posters
illustrating their daily lives and then describe their day without using any written prompts.

Argentine "Soccer Gods"

Profe Bañuelos' Spanish 3-4 class is learning about one important detail of Argentine culture: their extreme passion of soccer (fútbol). Something that Profe Bañuelos witnessed first-hand when he attended 3 Argentina games at the 2010 FIFA World Cup last summer in South Africa.  Two Argentine "soccer gods" include Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi (pictured).  

Spanish 5-6 students prepare for mock-job interviews

Spanish 5-6 students in Mr. McViegh, Mr. Stanko and Mr. Lawhead's classes are diving head-first into the Job Interview projects. The students have completed the career quizzes and have begun writing the essay and researching the career of their choice. The mock-job interviews will take place on March 30 and 31.

Madame Leidhoff's students of first year French performed their benchmarks on discussing their school schedules, activities and daily lives for 2-3 minutes.
