World (and out-of-this world) travel for ASL students!

Mrs. Redelings' ASL 2 students are going to the Bahamas, Paris, Greece, Italy, and not to mention, the moon, among other places...on their dream vacations! Students are using a variety of vocabulary in this latest presentation, including signs about travel, time, money, food, and people, to tell about their dream trips.

"Libro de Problemas" helps teach Subjunctive mood

Mr. Stanko's Spanish 5-6 class has just learned about a new mood in Spanish: the subjunctive.  To reinforce this often difficult new mood, students are making a "libro de problemas" in which students offer solutions, using the subjunctive, to workplace and personal problems.  We have already started to share some of the problems and solution with each other and it has been very interesting to see the solutions students come up with.

Beacoup d'activités for French students!

Madame Leidhoff's French 3-4 students are learning about the prehistoric art drawing of the caves of Lascaux, France.

French 1-2 are beginning their autobiography project.

Honors and AP students are gearing up for the exams. They have worked on vocabulary of the automobile, the commerce that surrounds it, traffic and cultural differences in procuring a driver’s license.

Japanese students present dream projects

Mr. Blackwelder's 5-6 and 7-8 Japanese classes are in the midst of presenting projects on a dream that they've had, based on Natsume Soseki's classic collection of writings, "Ten Nights of Dreams." Students may opt to use a visual or record and manipulate their voice to enhance presentations.

Spanish 5-6 students survive the 2011 Mock-Job Interview Project!

The Spanish 5-6 classes of Mr. Lawhead, Mr. McVeigh and Mr. Stanko dressed professionally, presented their résumés and were interviewed in Spanish by Spanish-speaking members of the community. Despite their initial nervousness, students performed well and we received many compliments concerning their preparation and knowledge.  Video to come soon!

Spanish 1-2 Benchmark #2: Describing a friend or family member

Profe Bañuelos' Spanish 1-2 students presented their Benchmark #2 where they described in Spanish a friend or family member all by memory while holding up a picture of that individual.  Students spoke from a minute to two minutes in front of Profe Bañuelos.

Madame Frederickson's French 5-6 students are researching their choice of Paris places and monuments, and learning how to use the subway to get to them.

ASL presentation: "Dream Trip/Day"

Early in the week, students in Mrs. Redelings' class will continue to practice Unit 10 vocabulary and classifiers to prepare for their bi-weekly assessment.
Later in the week, students will be exploring new vocabulary which they will use in their next signed presentation: 'Dream Trip/Day'

ASL students present themselves and family!

ASL 6 classes are finishing up presenting the "Introducing Yourself" presentations which have been wonderful! Mrs. Smith is thrilled with several of the ASL 6 students who have achieved a conversational fluency and others are at an the emerging fluency level.
ASL 4 classes are finishing up presenting "Introducing a Family Member". The students have done a great job presenting with confidence. They are showing mastery of number rules, fingerspelling and listing.





Span 3-4 goes shopping in Puerto Rico

Señora Trott's Spanish 3-4 classes enjoyed Benchmark #3. Vocabulary, grammar, cultural studies all supported the theme of shopping in Puerto Rico!

Mr. McVeigh's Spanish 5-6 students are honing their conversation skills for the upcoming Job Interview Project. 
Spanish 7-8 students have just completed a challenging unit on Human Rights and will begin a new unit on the Individual and Personalities after the break. 
AP Spanish Language students have just read and reenacted Gabriel García Márquez's La Viuda de Montiel.  They are anxiously awaiting the AP Exam, scheduled for May 3rd. 

French 7-8 students read Le Petit Prince

Students of French 7-8 finished and received their essays on Le Petit Prince. The ending very sad and symbolic of coming their stages of growing up. Mrs. Leidhoff reports the quality of the essays were impressive.

Students of 3-4 viewed Manon de la Source, a film based on the novel of Marcel Pagnol. Students found the complex plot most intriguing
