Finals Over and a New Beginning!

Not much activity this week as students prepare for and take their final exams.  Here is Señor Lawhead's 5th period class hard at work Friday morning.  This Monday, students will first report to their CORE class for their Spring Semester schedules and then continue with periods 1-6.   It's a new beginning and students can improve (or maintain) their own high standards of excellence in learning. Welcome to the 2012-2013 Spring Semester!

Alfajores Argentinos

Student's in Spanish 3-4 with Profe Bañuelos were put in a competition when learning how use the present progressive tense with a reflexive verb like, "me estoy cepillando los dientes OR estoy cepillándome los dientes" (I'm brushing my teeth). The first five students who correctly wrote a sentence won an alfajor argentino, Argentina's national desert. They have different variations, however the classic one has dulce de leche, a sweetened milk that comes out like a caramalized sugar.

Spanish 1-2 students map "Ideal School"

Students in Señora Lemaitre's class are demonstrating their understanding of the use of "Estar" and prepositions by creating a map of their "Ideal School" and describing where each place in the school (the office, the gym, the cafeteria, etc...) are located. Students work in pairs and create the map, then describe it front of the class.

By now, students should have the language ingredients to create original sentences and communicate basic information about themselves, their activities, and their school.

¡Es un Robo! skits in Spanish

Students in Ms. Ranzolin's Spanish 3-4 class gave a presentation on their daily routine, everyone did a fantastic job! In Ms Ranzolin's 5-6 class, students wrote and performed to the class a skit about a robbery incorporating grammer they learned this semester. They put a lot of work into them, and the skits were very funny.

Additionally, students have been practicing for the vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension sections of the final exam through open-ended and multiple choice questions. AP students attended to increasingly lengthier, complex listening comprehension passages, answering detailed questions related to both narratives and interviews.
